[Peptides Blog](/) / Sermorelin, selank and kisspeptin

October 27, 2026

A changed blood test can sound like the happy ending. I always want the next sentence: did the person feel better, sleep better or enjoy life more? Sermorelin, selank and kisspeptin raise different questions. Putting them in one post doesn’t give them the same answer.

## Sermorelin has a history, not an adult wellness approval

![Illustrative microscopy-style view of pituitary tissue in clusters of softly coloured cells.](/pb-quiet-morning-0e3fea6c17b1/morning-after-sleep.webp)

An illustration of pituitary tissue, the gland in this section’s hormone-release story; it does not show a sermorelin response.

Sermorelin copies part of a hormone that asks the pituitary, a small gland under the brain, to release growth hormone. Its older approved uses involved testing hormone release and treating children with a growth hormone shortage. Those approvals were withdrawn in 2009. FDA later [found the products had not left sale because of safety or effectiveness problems](https://www.federalregister.gov/d/2013-04827).

U.S. buyers currently have no marketed sermorelin medicine with FDA approval. That old approval didn’t cover adult wellness. A [small, short study in older men](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9005976/) raised growth hormone without changing measured muscle or fat. Some performance tests improved, but that leaves a long way to a claim about ageing well.

Older studies reported [flushing and pain at the injection site](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18031173/). They don’t give us a full safety picture for adult use today.

Under the [ingredient rules for compounding](https://www.fda.gov/drugs/human-drug-compounding/bulk-drug-substances-used-compounding-under-section-503a-fdc-act), sermorelin acetate may have a route for a named patient with a prescription, if all federal and state conditions are met. That’s a reading of the rules, not an FDA clearance for a particular preparation. A compounded medicine is not FDA-approved.

## Selank’s small studies leave a large question

Selank is a lab-made peptide developed in Russia and discussed for anxiety. One [small anxiety study compared it with another medicine](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18454096/). The abstract doesn’t describe a placebo group, meaning a comparison without an active treatment. That leaves an important limit on what it can tell us about benefit.

Selank has no U.S. approval. FDA lacks important human safety information and flags possible immune reactions for certain ways of using it. On the page current as of April 22, 2026, [selank acetate is listed among withdrawn nominations](https://www.fda.gov/drugs/human-drug-compounding/certain-bulk-drug-substances-use-compounding-may-present-significant-safety-risks). That means the request was taken back, not that FDA cleared it for compounding.

For anxiety, a licensed clinician can assess the concern and discuss established options. I wouldn’t treat this small study as an answer to that whole conversation.

## Kisspeptin remains a research conversation

Closeness is an ordinary part of life, not a result demonstrated by this photograph.

Kisspeptin helps set off signals that control reproductive hormones. In a [small controlled study in men with low sexual desire](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36735255/), researchers found changes in sexual response during a short exposure to kisspeptin-54. That doesn’t establish a lasting treatment. It also doesn’t test kisspeptin-10, a different form.

A [clinical review describes kisspeptin as still under investigation](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38265397/). Long-term safety remains uncertain. Its effects in people with hormone-sensitive conditions are also unclear.

FDA’s page current as of April 22, 2026 lists kisspeptin-10 in Category 2, its safety-concern group under the ordinary-pharmacy compounding policy. Unlike selank, it remains in that group. Neither listing is an approval.

Changes in desire or reproductive health belong in a clinical conversation; experimental treatment belongs in supervised research. For me, a changed signal leaves the everyday question waiting.
